Bedrooms are private spaces, they need to be designed keeping privacy, comfort, coziness in mind with natural light perfectly fitting into the room. some features that need to remember and applied while designing are as follows-
- Keep it Simple – Keep it Simple meaning this space need not to be filled with too much of furniture, not too much of storage. let the space breathe as you need to spend the most important function of your daily activity i.e. “SLEEP” Yes! This is true a better sleep leads to a better day we all know that but somewhere we put so many things into this room.
- Circulation – well designed space have a key feature i.e “CIRCULATION”. Circulation around bed, and other furniture. There are minimum standards for circulation which should be followed while designing. As per standards, minimum distance around bed need to be two feet wide and distance from door need to be three feet wide apart from its opening area.
- View and Natural Light – Natural light and view should be a major factor in bedrooms, it leads to liveliness in space, nobody would like if they open the window towards a shabby and dirty outside. view a factor for which the space is located towards the best location keeping the light and heat factor in mind. the location should not towards South because it is the hottest part, it can be East or North . West side can also be harmful as evening sun can heat up the space.
- Furniture layout – In bedroom it is obvious the main element is Bed itself, other furniture like Wardrobe, Table, Chair, any working table. All this furniture need to be designed keeping minimum distances in mind. A good layout leads to better circulation, as every thing is connected to each other.
- Color and Fabric – This space is considered to relax that is why it’s color plays a important role, it can boost your mood or can destroy it. With color being a major factor Fabric also plays the same role. lighter, calmer and soothings colors should be used while painting bedroom. The main Bed wall can be focused with wallpaper or some real texture to create a impact. colors like Lighter shades of Blue, Green, Lavender, Grey, Yellow. You can use a color scheme. Do not use dark shades, it will shorten up the space as well as it will be a claustrophobic space then for the user. Fabric of your choice, it can be subtle or colorful which make the space more interesting to be in. Use different shades of curtains, different pillows, soft carpet, it will bring a visually calmer and warmth to the room.
- Accessories – Use pictures of family or whatever you like to make the space homely. bedside lamps, flower pots, little decor items all boost up the space with little things.
- Ceiling – Ceiling should be light colored or if decorated then use natural items like wood, because as you lay down you see ceiling right at you so it need not be dark, or heavy. keep it as lighter as possible.
